SHEFFIELD CLOSED TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Seventeen-year-old Kim Daybell (Crookes TTC) has been crowned Sheffield Open Singles champion, having defeated six time winner Stephen Horsfield at the Wisewood Community Sports College. Following ten hours of highly charged table tennis, during which he disposed of the number one seed Shaun Marples and Richard Lightowler the 2003 champion, Daybell took the first ever winner’s cheque of £75.00. In an enthralling Women’s final that went the distance, Lisa Radford (Crookes) toppled Laura Robinson (Don Valley) who had earlier caused a stir by eliminating top seeded Sarah Perks (Vulcan Redtooth). Making it a double triumph Lisa, a Plymouth born student at Sheffield University, earlier became Mixed Doubles champion in tandem with Shaun Marples.

Handicap Singles - J Greenwood bt J Calvert 21-15. Draw Doubles - S Element & M Short bt F Anthony & L Tattersall 11-3, 11-9.
