Rotherham Scorpions D maintained their winning streak at the top of Division Three with a 7-3 result over visitors Vulcan Redtooth F. Michael Taylor, Alex Bland and Ben Malin all scored twice and Taylor and Bland combined to win the doubles. Cliff Glaves who is mentoring Redtooth’s F team, took a hat trick and characteristically stood down from the doubles, in order that newcomers Marg and Jordan Taylor would gain additional match experience.

Dan Smith took a maximum for the Division Two early pace setters Vulcan Redtooth D on a visit to Crookes C. A Richard Horsfield brace gave the hosts a brief 3-2 lead, then their scoring evaporated as John Nelson and Glyn Ward both hit braces of their own to give the visitors a 7-3 result. David Read had a 3-1 win over Ward which completed Crookes’ scoring.

Albert Premier A has captured the Division Two title thanks largely to Richard Element (57/60), the division’s leading scorer. Fourteen year old Alex Tilley (43/56) made a huge contribution and will be looking forward to top-flight competition next term. Alex recently became the Division Two champion player at the Sheffield closed championships. Shaun Alvey, the English Table Tennis Association’s Yorkshire region disability officer ended the season with a creditable 64% wins.

Vulcan Redtooth A took a massive step towards taking the Division One champions crown as they outgunned their biggest rivals and defending champions Stocksbridge Rugby A at Attercliffe. The holders took a 2-1 lead with Matt Kenny edging out Mark Short over five ends having trailed 2-0. Ben Barlow equalised with a comfortable win over Andy Horsfield but Stocksbridge regained the lead following an immaculate performance from Stephen Horsfield as he trounced a lethargic looking Sheffield champion, Matt Dodds in straight games.
